About Me

Hi, I’m K.D. Huxman and I write children’s picture books.  This picture was taken in March 2008 when I won an EPPIE award for Best Children’s/YA book.  I was very excited.

Sometimes readers like to know a little bit about the authors of books they enjoy.  So, here goes!  I grew up in Massachusetts.  I have two brothers and two sisters.  We lived in the country and had, at different times, horses, cows, chickens, cats, dogs, and even chameleons.  When I was a kid I wanted to be a veterinarian.  Then I wanted to be an astronaut.  Instead I went to college and got a degree in Biology and became an Air Force officer.  I’m not in the Air Force anymore.

Now I’m a mom and a grandmother.  I still love animals.  Right now we have a black Lab named Shadow and a black cat named Magic.  I love to read and hike and walk with Shadow.  Gardens don’t grow very well in the part of Colorado where I live though I try to grow a few vegetables every year and try to keep my roses blooming.  I have a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a Korean martial art.  My whole family has done Tae Kwon Do at one time or another.  My husband is a third degree black belt, one daughter is a second degree black belt, and our son is a first degree black belt.  Our youngest is still deciding about Tae Kwon Do.

So those are kind of the basics.  What would you like to know about me?
